Baseball Ireland Development Coach

Baseball Ireland Development Coach

           

Baseball Ireland is seeking to appoint a full-time resident Development Coach as a key pillar in our “10x10” strategy to grow the game in Ireland.  The role will be a 2-year appointment based in the greater Dublin area with a 40-hour work week, including evening and weekend work as required based on baseball schedule.  Salary is €30,000 annually.  Some travel to baseball clubs outside of the Dublin area is expected where travel expenses will additionally be covered by Baseball Ireland.  The Development Coach will be responsible for their own accommodation and travel within Ireland.  In the event that the successful candidate is a non-EEA national, Baseball Ireland will support and fund an application for a Critical Skills Work Permit.  Baseball Ireland is seeking to fill this role immediately and is accepting applications for the role until November 22nd, 2019 and will pursue an interview process over the following weeks to make an appointment.  Applications may be made with a cover letter and resume to the Secretary, Sean Mitchell, by email at sean.mitchell02@gmail.com.  Target start date on the ground in Ireland is February, 2020.

 

The Development Coach will be employed primarily to promote and grow the game of baseball by on-field training of youth and adult players and coaches, including National Teams on the island of Ireland. This includes leading baseball camps and clinics, development of domestic coaches and the development of national team players. The Development Coach will also be expected to contribute to the development of documented syllabus for player and coach development programmes.

 

Duties will include the following:

  • Coaching youth players aged 5-18
  • Leading the BI Schools Programme
  • Working with the BI Academy Director to develop and manage training programmes
  • Liaising with youth coaches and youth teams
  • Working with other visiting coaches
  • Working with the GMs and coaching staff of the 18U and senior national teams
  • Helping to organise and coach youth baseball camps
  • Introducing baseball to children with no grounding in the sport
  • Travelling to work with youth teams within the 32 counties of Ireland
  • Helping to develop and deliver a coach training programme for domestic coaches
  • Represent Baseball Ireland in a positive fashion to all business partners and the general public
  • Maintaining a professional appearance in compliance with Baseball Ireland’s requirements

 

Required Skills and experience

  • Display a passion for positively impacting players’ and coaches’ knowledge and understanding of the game of baseball
  • Display an understanding of and commitment to the goals and mission of Baseball Ireland as articulated in the Baseball Ireland 10x10 Strategy
  • Coaching and organisational experience at youth level ages 5-18
  • Coaching and organisational experience with senior players age 18+
  • Baseball playing and/or coaching experience at the high school, college, and/or professional level
  • An ability to introduce baseball to children with no experience of the game
  • Ability to motivate and maximise the potential of players and coaches
  • Ability to display initiative and think on his/her feet
  • Exceptional organisational skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with players, coaches, operational staff and governing bodies as required
  • Familiarity and experience with strength and conditioning programmes appropriate to youth and adult players
  • Knowledge and experience in the maintenance and development of arm strength for baseball players
  • A valid driver’s licence and preferably own transport
  • Willingness to adapt to and embrace a flexible work schedule
  • A willingness to travel to tournaments in Europe and elsewhere
  • Possession of a Child Protection Garda Clearance Certificate or equivalent
  • The ability to implement both strategic and tactical initiatives.
  • Self-starter able to work effectively and drive programmes with limited direction.
  • Ability to develop and implement high performance programmes and team environments
  • Demonstrate an athlete centred approach to coaching and development
  • For non-resident applicants: Experience with international travel, ideally having spent time living and working abroad.
